(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Today, United States Representative Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS) welcomes a new staffer to his Washington, D.C. office. Deidre Alexander is a native of Jackson, Mississippi, with a wealth of experience in education, nonprofit, and public policy. She was previously the Manager of Strategic Initiatives at CityWorks DC, where she managed projects and provided strategic planning support to help build a citywide talent pipeline infrastructure. Deidre served as the Founding Director of the Mississippi Collective, which is a public education advocacy nonprofit. She also worked as a legislative consultant and researcher for the ACLU of MS. With a background in education, Deidre has served as a teacher, director of interventions, literacy specialist and founded Women Educators of Color. She was recognized for her leadership potential and selected as a Senior Leadership Fellow for Higher Heights. She holds a Master's in Public School Administration from Teachers College, Columbia University, and a Bachelor's in Elementary Education from Jackson State University.
