(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Today, Congressman Bennie G. Thompson announces Mississippi’s open application period for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP) for Fiscal Year (FY) 2023. The NSGP provides funding for physical security enhancements and other security-related activities for eligible nonprofit organizations, that are at high risk of a terrorist attack.
Congressman Thompson has long been an advocate for the NSGP. In 2019, Congress enacted, the Securing American Nonprofit Organizations Against Terrorism Act (P.L. No: 116-108), sponsored by Congressman Thompson, which formally authorized the NSGP, increased NSGP funding, and made funds available to nonprofit organizations located both inside and outside urban areas. In 2022, Congress enacted, the Nonprofit Security Grant Program Improvement Act of 2022 (P.L. No: 117-263), sponsored by Congressman Thompson, which increased NSGP’s funding and strengthened its impact and effectiveness.
"In recent years, we have seen an increase in threats of violence against nonprofit organizations specifically towards houses of worship. With the increase in terrorist threats against nonprofit organizations, it is crucial that communities like ours apply for the Nonprofit Security Grant Program to ensure that our loved ones are protected.”
