ICYMI: Brenna Bird Goes All-In On Total Abortion Ban

August 13, 2024

DES MOINES — Chair of the Iowa Democratic Party Rita Hart issued the following statement at the conclusion of the June 4, 2024 Iowa primaries:

“Democrats are ready to make a change! Thank you to every Iowan who showed up to vote today. You are the ones who keep your democracy functioning.

Thank you to everyone who stepped up and put their name in the running to hold public office on Aug 13th. It’s not easy to make the sacrifices it takes to put your name on the ballot, but having folks who are willing to serve and represent their communities is so important.

What’s particularly exciting is that more Iowa Democrats [75] ran for seats in the Iowa statehouse today than Republicans. It’s evident Iowa Democrats have momentum heading into November, and that Iowans are rejecting an extreme Republican agenda that controls women’s reproductive rights, puts millions of dollars of taxpayer money into private schools while public schools struggle to make ends meet, and dismantles important services like our AEAs.

It’s time to return balanced government to Iowa by electing Democrats to better represent all of Iowa. It’s time to put the needs of Iowans over those of big corporations and special interest groups, and bring some common sense back to our state.”
