IDP Chair Hart Issues Statement on the Passage of Republicans' Big, Bad Budget-Busting Bill

July 3, 2025

The bill kicks more than 100,000 Iowans off Medicaid, puts rural hospitals and nursing homes at risk, raises energy costs, and adds more than $3 trillion to the national debt to fund tax breaks for billionaires

DES MOINES - Iowa Democratic Party Chair Rita Hart issued the following statement regarding the passage of Republicans’ big, bad, budget-busting bill:

“Mariannette Miller-Meeks, Zach Nunn, Randy Feenstra and Ashley Hinson - you said yourselves this bill cuts Medicaid. You were told by rural hospital leaders they will have to close. You were told by workers it’s a job killer. You were told by doctors and nurses it will raise costs and by families it will increase their electricity bills. You didn’t listen. You gave away tax breaks to your wealthy donors and racked up more debt for our kids. You went back on your promises. You betrayed your constituents. Now, you deserve to lose your job.”
