Zach Nunn and Mariannette Miller-Meeks Gearing Up to Vote for Massive Medicaid Cuts a Second Time

July 2, 2025

The pair signed on to a meaningless letter begging the Senate to scale back cuts they already voted for

DES MOINES - After voting for the largest cut to Medicaid in American history, Zach Nunn and Mariannette Miller-Meeks tried to beg the Senate to scale back the aggressive cuts by signing a meaningless letter.

Now, they’re getting ready to vote on the same cuts a second time.

The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimates the Miller-Meeks and Nunn-backed House-version of the GOP Tax Scam would result in more than 106,000 Iowans uninsured by gutting Medicaid and failing to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits. In addition, nearly 24 million Americans will see their monthly health care costs increase and over 300 rural hospitals could close, including MercyOne Newton Medical Center in IA-01.

“Miller-Meeks and Nunn signed a completely meaningless letter claiming they oppose Medicaid cuts after they voted for the largest Medicaid cuts in history. Now they’re about to rubber-stamp even more extreme cuts to health care to give tax breaks to the ultra-wealthy on the backs of Iowans. Iowans recognize hogwash when they see and hear it and will hold Miller-Meeks and Nunn accountable,” said Iowa Democratic Party Chair Rita Hart.
