Winsome, Lose Some: As Virginians Face Real Issues, Sears Stays Focused on Trump

August 8, 2025

VIRGINIA - This week, Winsome Earle-Sears can’t escape her comments that Donald Trump’s attacks on Virginia jobs aren’t “real issues.” As Virginians face very real issues - from Trump’s attacks on Virginia jobs to healthcare cuts - it’s clear Sears doesn’t have solutions and won’t even acknowledge the problem at hand.

SETTLING THIS WEEK’S SCORE

Winsome’s Wins:

  • Touting Trump: Winsome Earle-Sears has repeatedly touted a meeting with Donald Trump to discuss her campaign. Despite getting into the Oval Office, Sears failed to stand up to Trump’s reckless policies and advocate for Virginians’ jobs and healthcare.
  • Back to School: As Virginia students start a new school year, Virginia Democrats compiled a school supply list to ensure that Winsome Earle-Sears has everything she needs for her extreme agenda that includes supporting legislation that would cut funding from Virginia’s public schools and working to defund public education

Winsome’s Losses:

  • Can’t Escape “Real Issues”: Following her interview with CNN where Sears dismissed the jobs cuts saying she wants “to talk about real issues” instead, the Spanberger for Governor campaign released a new ad highlighting Sears dismissing the attacks on jobs and criticizing Sears for putting loyalty to Donald Trump first, ahead of what’s best for Virginia.
  • Released Receipts: Dogwood released the “receipts” detailing Winsome Earle-Sears’ extensive record attacking public education from putting private profits over public schools to taking money from anti-public school moguls to supporting efforts to dismantle public education.
  • Unwanted Attention: Outside of a Sears event in New Kent, Virginians called out Sears for defending Trump instead of fighting for Virginia and defunding healthcare by backing Trump’s tax bill and saying it “does so many great things.”
  • 9th Time is the Charm: Following Sears’ appearance on CNN, Fox 5 extended their 9th invitation to Sears to come on the show after the first 8 invitations did not result in an interview.

As Virginians across the Commonwealth face real issues – from Trump’s attacks on Virginia jobs to healthcare cuts – this week was just more proof that with Winsome, it’s Virginians who stand to lose the most.
