Thune, Rounds Throwing Working Families Under the Bus

July 1, 2025

Sioux Falls, SD - Below is a statement from SDDP Chair Shane Merrill after Republican Senators shoved through their big, disastrous budget bill.

"Leader Thune and Senator Rounds chose tax breaks for the wealthy over the needs of hard working South Dakotans. This bill targets our most vulnerable citizens, robbing them of their health insurance, taking food off the table, increasing energy bills, and killing good-paying jobs. Our rural communities will also experience sweeping cuts to hospitals and nursing homes. Thune and Rounds are throwing working families under the bus. South Dakotans need to hold them accountable for the disaster they have created for our state."
