New Polling Finds Majority of Voters Have Serious Concerns About Winsome Earle-Sears Support of Trump's Tax Bill

July 21, 2025

Sears backed the bill stripping 322,000 Virginians of healthcare and will force rural hospitals to close

VIRGINIA - New polling reported by Politico finds that the majority of Virginia voters have serious concerns about Winsome Earle-Sears’ support of Donald Trump’s tax bill. The polling also finds Sears’ support for the bill’s healthcare cuts is deeply unpopular with voters.

“While Trump’s tax bill and its devastating healthcare cuts are deeply unpopular with Virginians, Winsome Earle-Sears cheers on this harmful agenda. As 322,000 Virginians will be stripped of their healthcare and rural hospitals will be forced to close, Sears owes the Commonwealth answers about why she once again is putting Trump before Virginia,” said DPVA Spokesperson Maggie Amjad.

Winsome Earle-Sears cheered on Trump’s tax bill and dismissed the concerns of Virginians being stripped of their health insurance.

  • Sears told the 322,000 Virginians being stripped of their health insurance and six rural hospitals facing closure as a result of the bill, “don’t panic.”
  • Sears praised Trump’s tax bill saying it “does so many great things” as it strips 322,000 Virginians of healthcare and puts six rural hospitals at risk of closing.

As Congress considered Trump’s tax bill, Sears repeatedly refused to oppose the legislation even though it would put health insurance and rural hospitals at risk.

  • Sears has repeatedly refused to comment on the cuts to Medicaid.
  • The Sears campaign even ejected a reporter from a campaign event to avoid discussing Sears’ position on Medicaid.
  • When local leaders and Virginians called Sears out saying “her silence speaks volumes,” Sears declined to comment and the Daily Progress reported that the “Earle-Sears’ campaign has declined multiple interview requests on the subject from multiple news outlets, and the campaign did not immediately respond to a Daily Progress inquiry.”
  • When asked about the Medicaid cuts, Sears told reporters “I don’t want to comment yet about things that aren’t set in concrete.”
