Nebraska Democratic Party Statement Regarding Nebraska Supreme Court Ruling on LB20 and Restoring Voting Rights to Individuals Who Have Completed Their Sentences
LINCOLN, NE – The Nebraska Democratic Party Chair Jane Kleeb issues the following statement regarding the Nebraska Supreme Court ruling on LB20 and restoring voting rights to those with felonies:
“With the Nebraska Supreme Court ruling today, individuals who have completed their sentences will rightfully have their voting rights restored. LB20 passed the Legislature with overwhelming bi-partisan support from our state senators. Secretary of State Robert Evnen and Attorney General Mike Hilgers decided to disenfranchise a group of potential voters over politics rather than the law.
We are mobilizing to ensure all individuals affected have an opportunity to register to vote and then cast their ballot the same day by walking into their county election office during this window. We encourage anyone who has completed their felony requirements to register at IWillVote.com. We thank Senators Wayne and McKinney for their efforts in uplifting the voices of those who have paid their debt to society and want to participate in our country’s democratic process. The Nebraska Democratic Party has set up a hotline to assist voters 402-946-0005.”
