Missouri Democratic Party Mourns The Loss Of President Carter

December 30, 2024

“President Jimmy Carter lived a long inspiring life providing a powerful example of character and public service still relevant to Americans today and to future generations. President Carter’s deep faith and epic love story with his wife and partner Rosalynn shaped his leadership style and long-held ideals. He was a proud Democrat who believed the party and its coalition was a strong tool for everyday people to make government work for them. His life story - a rural farmer who served in the Navy, his first election to the local school board, becoming President and exemplary world citizen - is a worthy example to teach our children and grandchildren. Missouri Democrats thank him for his principled lifetime of leadership,” said Missouri Democratic Party Chairman Russ Carnahan.

“As an 18-year-old, I cast my first vote for Jimmy Carter to be president, and it was a proud moment for our family to see him carry Missouri and win the presidency. Our hearts go out to the Carter family and hope that this time of mourning is also a time of national reflection about the high ideals of genuine public service and giving back to your community. We could all do well with a little Jimmy Carter inspiration in our lives. Let's listen and learn in the days ahead as we remember his legacy.
