Michigan Dems Fight for Happy Holidays, Republican Leadership Could Bring Grim New Year

Michigan Dems are fighting to put money back in families’ pockets while MIGOP wants to bring progress to a grinding halt in new year

LANSING - As the holiday season begins with Whitmer signing a commonsense expansion of unemployment benefits, Michigan Dems are proudly looking back on a session of helping our communities and putting money back into working Michiganders’ hands. Between the rolled-back retirement tax, expanded Working Families Tax Credit, and universal free breakfast and lunch for public school students, hard-working Michiganders are keeping more of their hard-earned money than ever. As Republicans take the state House majority next year, Michiganders could see all of that progress stopped in its tracks in favor of an out-of-touch, extremist agenda. 

“Going into the holiday season, I’m so thankful for the work Michigan Democrats have done to build up the middle class and keep money in peoples’ pockets,” said Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party Lavora Barnes. “By not showing up in the last days of session, the MIGOP has already shown that they are willing to bring progress to a grinding halt - no matter how much it hurts middle-class families. Under Hall’s so-called leadership, they will continue to push their dangerous agenda over the well-being of Michiganders in 2025. 

“Hopefully, Matt Hall’s New Year’s Resolution will be to actually work with us to help people, but I won’t get my hopes up. Thankfully, Michigan Dems will be there every step of the way to fight for Michiganders and their families.”
