Michigan Dems Wrap Historically Productive Leg Session While Michigan Republicans Abandon Constituents

In two years of Dem trifecta, Dems delivered for working families while Republicans played politics with Michiganders’ lives

LANSING - Earlier today, the Michigan legislature completed their work for the year after Democrats spent two years delivering for Michiganders on the issues that impact them most: lowering costs, growing the economy, expanding health care, and improving education at every level. Sadly, while Michigan Dems were hard at work, time and again House Republicans were too busy throwing partisan tantrums to care about helping their constituents.

“Let’s be clear, for two years Democrats have been hard at work fighting and delivering for Michiganders and, at the end of the day, Republicans couldn’t be bothered to show up,” said Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party Lavora Barnes. “Democrats passed historic laws to improve Michiganders’ lives after years of failed Republican leadership — putting money right back in folks’ pockets through tax cuts, codifying the ACA, passing historic education budgets, creating tens of thousands of jobs, and protecting reproductive freedom. In that same time, Republicans refused to do anything besides push extremist, out-of-touch priorities that make Michigan more expensive and less safe.

“After literally abandoning their constituents and their jobs this week, House Republicans’ complete abdication of leadership and responsibility is a concerning sign of what Michiganders can expect in the new year. No matter what, Michigan Democrats will continue to serve Michiganders’ best interests and deliver for our great state.”
