ROANOKE, VIRGINIA - On July 22, 2025, Virginians called out Winsome Earle-Sears’ extreme record including cheering on Trump’s tax bill that’s taking health care away from 322,000 Virginians and will force rural hospitals to close.

“Looking at Winsome Earle-Sears’ extreme record, it’s crystal clear that if she makes it to the Governor’s mansion, she’ll just push her extreme agenda forward,” said Delegate Sam Rasoul. “From rolling back reproductive rights, to backing Trump’s attacks on Virginia jobs and Medicaid to defunding public education, her policies are wrong for Virginia.”

“We need a governor willing to stand up for Virginians, not stand down, back down, and back away.  It's why we need Abigail Spanberger to be our next governor of Virginia,” said Dr. Cynda Johnson, local physician.

“Winsome Earle-Sears has cheered on the Trump tax bill that’s taking health care away from Virginians and will force rural hospitals to close. We know it’s only going to make it harder for Virginians to receive the care they need,” said Sarah Goodman, Virginian with a personal contraception story.

“Southwest Virginia is looking for a governor who is focused on expanding job creation, lowering costs, and improving our public schools, not someone with an extreme political agenda who wants to roll back our rights,” said Lily Franklin, candidate for Virginia’s 41st House District. “We deserve leaders who will fight for Virginia, stand up for Virginia, and deliver real and meaningful solutions. That’s not Winsome Earle-Sears.”

“We’ve seen again and again that Winsome Earle-Sears’ first priority is Donald Trump’s agenda – not Virginians,” said Donna Littlepage, candidate for Virginia’s 40th House District. “Sears is praising a bill that is going to hurt Virginia and yet she’s running to lead the Commonwealth. That’s not leadership.”

Here’s what to know about Sears’ extreme record:

  • After praising Trump’s tax bill saying it “does so many great things,” Sears told the 322,000 Virginians who are being stripped of their health care and six rural hospitals that will be forced to close as a result of the law, “don’t panic.”
  • Sears supports an extreme six week abortion ban similar to the law that took effect in Texas that bans abortion before most women know they are pregnant.
    • Sears told Virginia women “we need to make our choices before we’re pregnant, not, you know, after, you already made a choice,” and left a handwritten note that she is “morally opposed to this bill [...]” on the constitutional amendment that would protect reproductive freedom in Virginia, including contraception, abortion, and IVF.
  • Sears has defended Trump’s attacks on Virginia’s workforce and economy and she would help Trump “get the job done” if she were governor.
  • Sears was caught on tape dismissing and laughing off the attacks on Virginia jobs saying “the media is making it out to be a huge, huge thing… and I don’t understand why.”
  • Sears has a long record of supporting legislation that would cut funding from Virginia’s public schools.
  • Sears also left a handwritten note on a bill protecting marriage equality that she is “morally opposed” to the legislation and Sears doubled down on her opposition to marriage equality and refused to say that she would support anything other than civil unions for same-sex couples.
