Emphasizes its importance during the FAA reauthorization process
WASHINGTON – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), the ranking member of the Aviation Subcommittee, today addressed efforts to improve passenger safety and comfort at a hearing on “Navigating the Comprehensive Passenger Experience.” The hearing was the third held this year on the reauthorization of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Congressman Cohen noted that some progress was made in the 2018 reauthorization bill, but that much more work needed to be done to enhance the passenger experience, particularly for those with disabilities. He discussed the increase in consumer and disability-related complaints, the frequency of flight delays and cancellations and the consumer’s right to a cash refund, and the progress made in airport infrastructure improvements. He also discussed the safety concerns related to 90-second cabin evacuations for passengers that use mobility aids and noted that the FAA has still not promulgated a final rule related to seat size as required by his SEAT Act.
