Richmond, VA – In the final stretch of this election, the DPVA is launching “7 Days, 7 Ways Hung Cao Is Out-Of-Touch With Virginians,” highlighting seven ways (although we had trouble narrowing it down!) Hung Cao is out-of-touch with Virginians.
The first way Hung Cao is out-of-touch with Virginians is how he insults Virginians. When facing scrutiny for his scam PAC, Hung Cao lashed out at the Staunton News Leader and called it “podunk.” Instead of apologizing, Hung Cao has continued to double down and then said it would be “ridonkulous” for him to drive to a candidate forum in Abingdon. Hung Cao has also continued to insult Virginians by not understanding the basic geography of the Commonwealth he is seeking to represent, calling anything south of Loudoun and Fairfax “Southern Virginia” and saying that Southwest is the “Wisconsin” of Virginia.
Hung Cao has continued to insult Virginians by failing to show up for them. In the GOP primary, Cao skipped 12 out of 13 candidate forums. He refused to participate in two debates, forcing the Virginia Bar Association and Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce to cancel debates for Virginians to discuss serious issues facing the Commonwealth.
“Hung Cao is an elitist who has denigrated rural Virginia as ‘podunk’ and thinks he’s too good to drive to Abingdon,” said DPVA Chairwoman Susan Swecker. “By insulting Virginians left and right, Hung Cao shows he isn’t up to the task of being a U.S. Senator.”
