Jack Trammell has secured the Democratic nomination in the special election for the State Senate District 10 seat being vacated by Republican Congressman-elect John McGuire (VA-05). Trammell was the only Democrat to file for the election, and his nomination received strong support from the SD-10 Democratic Nominating Committee.
Trammell, who previously ran for Congress in 2014 against Republican Dave Brat in Virginia's 7th Congressional District, is currently a college professor and sociologist at Mount St. Mary's University in Maryland. He owns a farm and lives in Louisa County, Virginia.
"Jack Trammell has always been a dedicated advocate for better schools, stronger support for educators, improved infrastructure, and expanded access to affordable healthcare," DPVA Chairwoman Susan Swecker said. "These are the same priorities and values he will champion in the State Senate, particularly for rural communities that Republicans have long neglected. I have no doubt Jack will flip this seat and be the pragmatic, principled leader that the people of SD-10 deserve."
