We Called It: Illinois GOP Sides with Trump’s Debate Vitriol

September 12, 2024

Chicago, IL – Two days ago we asked: Does the Illinois GOP stand by the nonsense Donald Trump spewed during Tuesday night’s presidential debate? No surprise here–they do.

Instead of presenting a clear plan to help Illinois or the American people, Trump spent his debate ranting about baseless racist conspiracy theories, promising policies that would raise costs for families, falsely claiming victory in the 2020 election, and refusing to commit to vetoing a national abortion ban. And did the Illinois GOP respond? In a radio interview on WMAY, the chair, Kathy Salvi, gave Trump her full endorsement.

Yikes. It’s alarming, but not surprising.

While the Illinois GOP falls in line with Trump’s dystopian agenda, Illinois Democrats are laser-focused on delivering real, tangible wins for Illinois families–building momentum, and ensuring victories up and down the ballot.
