Tudor Dixon Fires Warning Shot at John James

July 7, 2025

LANSING - Potential Republican candidate and former Trump-endorsed GOP nominee Tudor Dixon fired a warning shot at John James last week and trashed him for leaving his House seat and running for governor. While guest-hosting a radio show and trumpeting the Republican budget bill that will gut Medicaid and SNAP benefits, Dixon said that having people like James “step out of the House to run for other offices… will be a nightmare.”

DIXON, 1:56: “The idea of having people step out of the House to run for other offices and then ultimately Donald Trump doesn’t actually get those last two years… will be a nightmare.”

Dixon’s fellow host then attacked James, saying at 3:57, “Here in Michigan, where we’re sitting, John James who represents Macomb County, which is the home of Reagan Democrats, President Trump won Macomb County. But John James has decided to leave the House and run for governor. So that’s now another seat that Republicans will have to spend millions and millions of dollars to defend.”

Trump has already told James he isn’t happy with him, saying, “John James. John James. I don’t know. Do we have someone good to take your seat? Because otherwise we’re not letting him run for governor.”

Mike Cox has referred to James as “Job-Jumping John James” and Aric Nesbitt has said how “a lot of folks were disappointed” in James running for governor after “how much work they did to get the Congressman elected to Congress.” It’s clear that Republicans like Dixon, Cox, and Nesbitt want James in the House so he’ll continue to vote to cut Medicaid and Social Security.

“The Republican primary for governor is full of infighting - and potential candidate Tudor Dixon isn’t waiting to announce her campaign to fire a warning shot at John James,” said Michigan Democratic Party spokesperson Derrick Honeyman. “Republicans aren’t happy with John James and it’s clear this primary will be another bitter campaign where the candidates stake out the most extreme positions possible, like gutting Medicaid.”
