“A spokesperson for James did not respond to a request for comment.”
LANSING - On the 60th anniversary of Medicaid and Medicare last week, John James dodged questions on his support for cutting Medicaid for more than 700,000 Michiganders, with his spokesperson not responding to a request for comment from Michigan Advance.
James was a deciding vote for Donald Trump’s megabill, which guts Medicaid to pay for tax cuts for billionaires. The Republican bill will push more than 700,000 Michiganders off their health insurance and poses a significant risk to rural hospitals, with several across the state facing closure.
When previously confronted earlier this summer, James doubled down and attempted to mislead Michiganders. James then appeared at a ritzy fundraiser with billionaires Pamella and Dan DeVos last month - who are set to benefit heavily from the tax cuts that James voted for.
“Just like his refusal to face his constituents by hosting a town hall, John James is dodging tough questions on his vote for cutting health care for hundreds of thousands of Michiganders,” said Michigan Democratic Party Chair Curtis Hertel. “James can try and hide from his billionaire-first record, but Michiganders will remember how he was a key vote to rip away their health care.”
