Statement: Chair Hertel Celebrates Election Integrity Assessment Amid Republican Attacks on Democracy

April 3, 2025

LANSING -- Earlier on April 3rd, news broke that the Secretary of State’s office completed an audit confirming the security of the 2024 election at the same time that Republicans are pushing to put more barriers up to the ballot box. With this announcement, Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party Curtis Hertel released the following statement:

“Democrats are proud to be the only party of election integrity and of defending our democracy. This months-long review is telling us what we already know: Michigan’s elections can be safe and secure without sacrificing access to the ballot box.

“As Democrats fight to expand access to the ballot box, state Rep. Bryan Posthumus and his cohort are pushing poll taxes and voter ID laws that would disenfranchise Michiganders -- meanwhile, it’s questionable if Posthumus even lives in his own district. Thankfully, Michigan Democrats will keep fighting for every Michigander’s right to vote while ensuring the sanctity of our elections.”
