South Carolina Democrats Cheer Governor Tim Walz’s Decisive Win on the Debate Stage

October 2, 2024

Governor Tim Walz decisively won the debate against JD Vance by effectively laying out his and Vice President Kamala Harris’ New Way Forward to voters across South Carolina – one that puts the middle class first and protects our health care, environment, democracy, and fundamental freedoms – and held Vance accountable for his plans, in partnership with Donald Trump, to enact an extreme Project 2025 agenda that would hurt working families and threaten their freedoms.

In response to Governor Walz’s standout debate performance, South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Christale Spain issued the following statement:

“Governor Tim Walz proved to South Carolinians that he and Vice President Kamala Harris are the only candidates in this race who are capable of building on the progress we’ve made on every issue that matters to working families across South Carolina, while JD Vance tried and failed to sell voters on the Project 2025 agenda that would put them last and rip away their rights and freedoms. South Carolina voters saw two different visions for our country on the debate stage that couldn’t be more different: one with lower costs, more freedom, and opportunities for a better future, and the Trump-Vance ticket’s self- serving agenda that offers no positive vision to make this country stronger, would put the middle class on the back burner, and only benefit the ultra-wealthy and corporations. Governor Walz decisively won tonight’s debate, and South Carolinians are even more energized to send him and Vice President Harris to the White House in November. We will continue to register voters and work to get out the vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz from now until Election Day.”
