SCDP Chair’s Statement on Senator Gerald Malloy’s Service in the South Carolina Senate

December 3, 2024

Columbia, SC — On Dec 2nd, Senator Gerald Malloy, candidate for South Carolina Senate District 29, announced the withdrawal of his formal protest regarding the certified results of the November 5, 2024, general election. The decision comes after significant irregularities and discrepancies were identified in the election process, particularly in Lee County, where errors exceeding the margin of victory cast doubt on the integrity of the results. In response, South Carolina Democratic Party Chair Christale Spain issued the following statement:

“The South Carolina Democratic Party recognizes Senator Gerald Malloy for his 22 years of unwavering commitment and distinguished service in the South Carolina State Senate. Senator Malloy has dedicated his life to improving the lives of South Carolinians through a legacy of advocacy, community service, and principled leadership.

An accomplished lawyer, Senator Malloy has consistently demonstrated an unyielding passion for justice, education, and economic opportunity.

Throughout his tenure, Senator Malloy advocated for job creation, small business support, and cost reduction for families. He has been a fierce proponent of expanding Medicaid and bolstering rural healthcare systems. He fought for equitable funding for rural schools and improving teacher pay. Senator Malloy served as Chairman of the South Carolina Criminal Justice Task Force and advocated for indigent defense reform.

Senator Malloy served for many years as the Chair of the Darlington County Democratic Party and while we will miss his leadership in the South Carolina Senate, we know he will remain in the fight for all South Carolinians”
