Oklahoma's Most Vulnerable Students Deserve A Protector

October 21, 2024

Noble, OK — In a shocking revelation, Republican candidate Jonathan Wilk, running for House District 20, recently endorsed using corporal punishment on children with disabilities during a public forum. Wilk stated, “If they have the ability to act like a human being, then they should be disciplined if they are not.” This disturbing view has left many parents and educators outraged.

Research shows that corporal punishment can cause long-term harm, including trauma, emotional distress, and negative educational outcomes. Oklahoma's current laws disproportionately impact children with disabilities—some of the state’s most vulnerable citizens.

"Wilk's comments demonstrate the extremism we are fighting against here in Oklahoma." stated Chairwoman Alicia Andrews, "The last thing parents in Oklahoma want, is to be concerned whether or not their child is facing harm in the classroom."

Mitchell Jacob: A Candidate Who Will Defend Our Children

Mitchell Jacob, an Army veteran running against Wilk, is committed to protecting children and ensuring Oklahoma’s schools are safe environments for all students. He opposes corporal punishment and supports trauma-informed, evidence-based discipline methods that help children grow without fear.

“As a father and veteran, I believe every child deserves to feel safe in school,” said Jacob. “It’s time for leaders who protect our kids rather than put them at risk. I will work tirelessly to end harmful practices and advocate for real solutions.”

A Choice for Parents: Protection or Harm

Oklahoma’s parents have a choice this election: a candidate who endorses harmful punishment or one who will champion the safety and dignity of all students. Mitchell Jacob is ready to serve with the integrity and courage he’s demonstrated in the military—ensuring our children receive the protection they deserve.
