NHDP Statement on Disastrous Supreme Court Ruling

July 1, 2024

Ray Buckley, Chairman of the New Hampshire Democratic Party, released the following statement regarding the Supreme Court’s ruling that President Trump has absolute immunity from criminal prosecution for all official acts he took while in office:

“With today’s ruling, the Supreme Court has fundamentally undermined and altered the principles ingrained in our democracy. The President is not a king, an emperor, or a dictator. The President is an American, accountable to our laws and our norms, and this dystopian decision sets a terrible precedent that Donald Trump will not only benefit from, but will take advantage of for his own personal gain. Today’s ruling does not change the fact that Donald Trump remains the greatest threat to our democracy – and that on January 6, he encouraged a mob to overthrow the results of a fair and free election. Now, more than ever, we must push back against this democratic backsliding and ensure we re-elect President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, people who respect, appreciate, and will work to strengthen the foundations of our democracy, so that people like Donald Trump cannot erode and degrade what makes the United States exceptional.”
