Miller-Meeks Campaigning with Mike Johnson Who Co-Sponsored a National Abortion Ban

October 18, 2024

DES MOINES – On Oct 18th, Mariannette Miller-Meeks is campaigning with Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, who co-sponsored a national abortion ban with no exceptions.

She can deny it all she wants, but Miller-Meeks paved the way for Iowa’s near-total abortion ban and supported a national abortion ban with no exceptions for rape, incest, or the woman’s life.

Read about her record for yourself in the Des Moines Register:

“[Miller-Meeks] did vote for anti-abortion legislation, including a constitutional amendment that would have said the Iowa Constitution does not protect abortion rights. She has applauded court rulings overturning abortion rights, including the Dobbs ruling.”

“Rally speakers took aim at Miller-Meeks for co-sponsoring the 2021-22 Life At Conception Act that states life begins at fertilization. It bans all abortions without exceptions for rape, incest or the life of the mother. It also does not outline protections for fertility treatments.

“Mike Johnson and Mariannette Miller-Meeks have voted for extreme abortion bans that Iowans do not support,” said IDP Chair Rita Hart. “Christina Bohannan is the only candidate in this race who will protect women’s rights and make sure women have the opportunity to make their own healthcare decisions.”
