Maryland Democratic Party on the 60th Anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid

July 30, 2025

In response to the 60th Anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid, Maryland Democratic Party 1st Vice Chair Dr. Charlene Dukes released the following statement:

“For 60 years, Medicaid and Medicare have been a lifeline for millions of Marylanders who rely on these programs for lifesaving health care. These programs are a reflection of our values — that everyone should have access to quality, affordable coverage in their times of need, no matter their age or their income. However, today, Donald Trump and House Republicans threaten to eviscerate this security.

Trump’s Budget Betrayal rips away essential care from Marylanders to give more tax handouts to billionaires. Nearly 246,000 Marylanders alone could lose health insurance because of Donald Trump’s budget. On this anniversary of Medicaid and Medicare, the Maryland Democratic Party will not stand idly by while Donald Trump creates a health care crisis for Marylanders. Democrats will continue to fight tooth and nail against Republicans’ heinous attacks on health care until every Marylander has the coverage they deserve.”
