Maine Democratic Party Statement Commemorating Labor Day

September 1, 2024

Maine Democratic Party Chair Bev Uhlenhake released the following statement:

“On Sep 1st, as we celebrate the history of the American labor movement and honor the contributions and achievements of working Mainers, I remember my dad, a factory worker and Union member, who taught me that, as Democrats, we don’t leave people behind.

“On November 5, Mainers have a choice between Vice President Harris and Governor Walz, who are fighting for a future where every worker can join a union and bargain for better wages, better benefits, and better lives, and Donald Trump, one of the most anti-worker and anti-union presidents in history, who shipped jobs overseas and rigged the economy for the ultra-wealthy & big corporations at the expense of the middle class.

“The right to organize is essential to making the economy work for everyone, and we must continue the strong actions taken by Democratic leaders in Maine to defend those rights from Republicans’ anti-worker policies, and the progress made to ban captive audience meetings and protect workers from retaliation by employers.”

Maine Democratic Party staff are represented by the International Brotherhood of Electric Workers Local 1837. Our offices are closed on Monday and will reopen at 9am on September 3, 2024.
