Idaho Families and Farmers Will Pay for Trump’s Tariffs, and Mike Crapo Let It Happen

April 2, 2025

In response to Donald Trump signing sweeping tariffs that will be paid for by American families, Idaho Democratic Party Chair Lauren Necochea released the following statement:

“Let’s be clear: these tariffs are nothing more than a tax hike on working families. Billionaires won’t feel a thing, but Idaho families will pay more at the store, the pump, and almost everywhere else. The last time Trump started a trade war, Idaho farmers got crushed. Prices dropped, markets dried up, and some family farms never recovered. Now, he’s taking a failed strategy to dangerous new extremes, putting our economy and livelihoods on the line. Senator Crapo had a chance to stop this. Instead of protecting Idaho, he blocked a bill that would have reined in presidential power to start harmful tariff wars. Trump, Musk, and Republicans in Congress don’t care about the pain they cause. Idaho Democrats do. We are standing with the farmers who feed us, the workers who keep our economy moving, and every family that can’t afford another hit to their household budget. Idahoans deserve better than this.”
