December 29, 2024

Idaho Democratic Party Chair Lauren Necochea released the following statement on the passing of President Jimmy Carter:

“Today, we join the nation in mourning the loss of President Jimmy Carter, a leader of unparalleled humility, integrity, and service. President Carter shared a unique bond with Idaho through his friendship with Governor Cecil Andrus, who served as his Secretary of the Interior. Together, they championed conservation efforts that left an enduring legacy, including protecting vast wilderness areas and public lands that Idahoans treasure.

“Their partnership exemplified how leadership rooted in trust and shared values can make a profound difference. Beyond his presidency, President Carter’s lifelong dedication to human rights, housing security, and global peace continues to inspire.

“On behalf of Idaho Democrats, we extend our condolences to the Carter family and honor his extraordinary life of service. May his memory remind us of the power of principled leadership and the enduring value of working together for the common good.”
