Former GOP Executive Director Jeff Timmer challenges Mike Rogers to side with transparency and justice for victims, not loyalty to Trump
LANSING - In case you missed it, former Michigan GOP Executive Director Jeff Timmer delivered a scathing rebuke of failed Senate candidate Mike Rogers on WJR radio, exposing how Rogers has stayed silent on the Epstein files to protect Donald Trump.
Rogers and Republicans in races across the country find themselves in a tough position as they work to keep favor with President Trump while navigating a MAGA base in full revolt over the administration’s refusal to release the Epstein files. An overwhelming majority (69%) of Americans think Trump is hiding information about Epstein, including nearly two-thirds of Republicans.
Key quotes from the interview:
WJR: All Talk with Kevin Deitz - Jeff Timmer on the Epstein Scandal’s Impact on the Michigan Senate Race
- Jeff Timmer: Pam Bondi and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanch went to Trump in May and told him his name is all over this evidence, and he told them to quiet it, to hush it up. He thought he had enough sway with his Republican base that he could just do that abrupt turn and they would go along with it…. So that’s why Republican candidates have to answer for that. That’s why Mike Rogers, who is running for US Senate – he has an FBI background, he’s a law enforcement official. Does he side with covering up this evidence, or does he side with making the evidence about this horrific child rape public? That’s what we need to know. Mike Cox, another former prosecutor running for governor, he needs to answer these questions.
- Kevin Deitz: The victims and the public wanted answers all along. I don’t think the victims’ families were waiting for Donald Trump to say he had released stuff to suddenly be interested in transparency, but it was Trump who made this a campaign issue. It was Trump who wanted transparency, and it’s Trump who’s not holding up his end of his promise. So, broken promises are a real thing, and transparency for me is one of the biggest issues, maybe the biggest issues for me…
- Jeff Timmer: Well, this is a big issue… Trump has tried to position himself and the Republicans position themselves as the candidates of law and order, yet that’s not been evidenced with their policy or political positions… It’s hard to be the party of law and order like Mike Rogers tries to pretend to be, but he’s changed his position since he was in Congress. He’s now been attacking the FBI, attacking law enforcement, and siding with criminals.
