Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried issued the following statement after learning of the U.S. bombing of Iran:
“Last night, just after stepping off stage at the Florida Democratic Party’s annual Leadership Blue conference, I learned of the U.S. bombing of Iran. I saw the shock and fear on the faces of my colleagues backstage as we tried to process the gravity of what had just happened.
In a room of nearly 1,000 people, opinions and feelings ran deep on all sides of the issue. But what unites the majority of Americans—and much of the world—is the clear understanding that Donald Trump is not the leader we need at this moment.
In an administration that operates lawlessly and runs on chaos, lies, and ignorance, Trump does not possess the wisdom of a great leader. He is not equipped to handle this crisis because he’s neutered all of the intelligence agencies, and sidelined all the expert military generals.
It’s shameful that he is politicizing a critical moment in world history by excluding Democratic leadership and only including Republicans in the war decision.
Iran must not have a nuclear weapon, but Donald Trump cannot be trusted to choose what is best for our country. I pray for the safety of our troops, and I call on the President to immediately bring this matter before Congress, as our Constitution requires.”
