Richmond, VA – In a WAMU candidate questionnaire, Hung Cao announced his support for a radical plan from Donald Trump to decimate Virginia’s economy and workforce jobs by moving up to 100,000 critical jobs out of the DMV region.
Cao responded to the question saying, “I support President Trump and Senator Vance’s proposal to move federal workforce jobs outside of Washington D.C... Virginia may very well be a net beneficiary of jobs as a result.” What is he talking about?
Cao knows this would hurt Virginia and the Commonwealth’s economy – and he is trying to cover up what Donald Trump’s scheme would do that would harm Virginia. The Commonwealth is home to over 140,000 federal civilian employees and this plan would jeopardize the jobs and livelihoods of many Virginians. According to the Washington Post, Virginia studies have shown that federal spending accounts for roughly one-third of the state’s economy.
This isn’t the first time Hung Cao has attacked the federal workforce. In May, Cao called for the ouster of the most senior civil servants in the FBI and the rest of the Justice Department, saying that “the country has lost faith in our Justice Department, and the only way to [restore] it is to really cut off the heads. … Really, really chop off the head of that Justice Department that’s doing really nefarious things.” Cao also supports Donald Trump’s Schedule F plan, which would strip protections from 50,000 civil servants and allow them to be replaced with political hacks.
“If Hung Cao can’t stand up to Donald Trump on behalf of Virginia workers now, how can anyone trust him to do so in the U.S. Senate?” said DPVA Chairwoman Susan Swecker. “Maybe if Hung Cao spent time talking to Virginians instead of kowtowing to Donald Trump and J.D. Vance, maybe he’d have the sense to oppose Trump’s dangerous plan to decimate Virginia jobs and the Commonwealth’s economy.”
