ARIZONA – On Dec 8th, President-elect Donald Trump told NBC that on day one, he plans to repeal birthright citizenship and begin mass deportations, saying that “you have no choice” but to deport entire families. Earlier this year during a rally in Arizona, Trump embraced and kissed Joe Arpaio, former Sheriff of Maricopa County and architect of the “Show me your papers” era.
“Trump’s promise to repeal birthright citizenship and bring back SB1070 nationally will impact thousands of our families and tank our economy,” said Arizona Democratic Party Chairwoman Yolanda Bejarano. “We will lose family and community members, while the price of groceries will skyrocket. The only way to protect Arizonans from these expensive and unconstitutional policies, is by re-electing our incumbent Democrats and electing Democrats who are ready to protect Arizonans.”
Arizona Democrats are the last line of defense against Donald Trump’s plan to begin mass deportations:
- Governor Katie Hobbs has been clear that she will not work with Donald Trump to perform mass deportations in Arizona, vowing “to protect Arizonans from harm […].”
- Attorney General Kris Mayes has vowed to protect Arizona from ‘unacceptable‘ Trump policies, noting that ending the DACA program is a “line in the sand” for her office.
- Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego vowed that the City will not use “[the] police department — or any city resources whatsoever — to assist in mass deportation efforts by the Trump administration.”
