LANSING - Republican gubernatorial candidate John James, who recently voted to cut Medicaid from working families to give tax giveaways to billionaires, is set to appear at a ritzy fundraiser with Pamella and Dan DeVos tomorrow in Bay Harbor, with tickets going for as much as $16,000.
The DeVos family - who will benefit heavily from the Republican tax cuts for billionaires - announced earlier this year a new far-right organization to push their radical, unpopular anti-public school agenda onto Michiganders. James supports the DeVos’ extreme anti-public school agenda that will hurt families and defund public schools, and has benefitted from millions of dollars in campaign contributions and support from them throughout his career.
James cast one of the deciding votes on Trump’s budget bill, and when previously confronted, James doubled down and attempted to mislead Michiganders. The cuts to Medicaid, along with Republican plans for gutting Social Security and Medicare that James has supported, will have disastrous consequences for Michigan.
“After gutting Medicaid to pay for massive tax cuts for billionaires like the DeVos family, John James is now groveling at the trough, begging for every dollar he can from the Devos’s and their billionaire friends,” said Michigan Democratic Party spokesperson Derrick Honeyman. “More than half a million Michiganders will soon lose their health insurance because of John James - and while he’s begging for billionaire bucks, hard-working Michiganders will remember how James sold them out.”
