WisDems Release Billboards In La Crosse, Eau Claire, Hold Derrick Van Orden Accountable

July 29, 2025

MADISON, WI - On July 28, 2025, the Democratic Party of Wisconsin launched a billboard campaign in western Wisconsin, highlighting WI-03 Congressman Derrick Van Orden’s vote for the Big Ugly Bill. The first billboard was launched in La Crosse with another going live next week in Eau Claire - featuring Van Orden’s now deleted tweet celebrating millions of Americans losing their health care and food security due to the Big Ugly Bill.

“Derrick Van Orden is going to keep lying and avoiding his constituents - so it’s our job to show them exactly who he is,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin spokesperson Philip Shulman. “For the first time in a long time, Derrick Van Orden was caught telling the truth when he endorsed the Big Ugly Bill taking away health care, school meals, and food security from millions of Americans.”

Less than two weeks ago, the WisDems held a town hall in Derrick Van Orden’s district where a number of attendees explained how the Big Ugly Bill will hurt them and their family members who rely on Medicaid. Van Orden, who has made a name for himself by refusing to hold town halls and instead spends his time tweeting incessantly, is up for reelection in 2026 in one of the most competitive seats in the country. Van Orden narrowly won reelection last November, underperforming in a district Trump won. By winning this seat in 2026, Democrats have a chance at gaining control of the House.
