What They’re Saying: Lyin’ Ted Called Out for His Lies at Texas Senate Debate

October 16, 2024

AUSTIN, Texas – Ted Cruz spent the Texas Senate debate doing what he does best: lying. From dodging his responsibility for the Texas abortion ban, to lying about his record in the Senate and January 6th, Lyin’ Ted was back in full force.

Here are the biggest moments where Lyin’ Ted got called out for misleading 30 million Texans:

1) Cruz repeatedly refused to answer for his support of the Texas abortion ban.

  • Sen. Ted Cruz repeatedly would not say whether he supports allowing abortion in the cases of incest or rape during what is likely to be the only debate between the Texas Republican and his Democratic opponent, Rep. Colin Allred.
  • “Why do you keep asking me that?” Cruz asked the moderators

  • “Why is this an issue you won’t address, about saying whether you support or oppose exceptions for rape and incest?” [the Dallas Morning News’ Gromer] Jeffers asked.
  • Ahead of the debate on Tuesday, the Allred campaign hosted a news conference with several Texas women who had struggled to navigate the state’s abortion ban. Kate Cox, a mother of two who has sued the state over the restrictions, described her experience traveling out of state to get an abortion after pregnancy complications imperiled her health.
  • “We learned our baby would never survive, and the risks to my health and a future pregnancy were growing, and the Texas abortion ban made a terribly difficult decision impossible to make in my home state,” Cox said.
  • “Ted Cruz says these abortion bans are reasonable,” Cox said. “I have personally seen the devastation.”

2) Cruz’s lies about getting things done in the Senate were rated FALSE.

  • The Houston Chronicle has reported that Cruz has been ranked one of the most partisan U.S. senators in the modern history of America – and Houston’s KHOU 11 VERIFY team fact-checked Cruz’s claim to have “authored and passed 101” bills.
  • They rated it FALSE:

3) Cruz dodged on January 6, refusing to answer for his role as architect of the attacks on American democracy.
