Iowa Farmer: Hinson’s vote on extreme House budget “will result in at least a $4,000 tax increase for my family of four”

Washington D.C. – Following her vote last week to make historic cuts to health care and food assistance while giving tax breaks to billionaires and adding $3.8 trillion to our deficit, Ashley Hinson held town halls in Elkader and Decorah today. At the meetings, animated full rooms of Iowans confronted Hinson with what her rubber stamp voting record in DC meant for them and their families:

Nick Larson, a family farmer from Walker, Iowa, shared what Hinson’s vote to slash Medicaid, end Affordable Care Act tax credits, and rip health care away from Iowans means for his family:

“My name is Nick Larson. I’m from Walker, Iowa… I’m a lifelong Iowan who grew up on a family farm. I attended college in Iowa and worked for a large corporation for 27 years then retired early from executive leadership to return to farming roots. I’m a self-employed farmer and consultant and purchase my insurance through the ACA marketplace. The recent legislation passed by the House will result in at least a $4,000 tax increase for my family of four. This, along, with an 88% increase in my home-owners insurance, an 86% percent increase in my farm building equipment insurance will increase costs for my family by $10,000 this coming year. Insurance costs are killing Iowans.”

Non-partisan analysis from the Kaiser Family Foundation has shown that the reconciliation bill will increase premiums for Iowans who purchase their health insurance through healthcare.gov.
