Virginia’s House Republicans Vote to Pass Budget Framework That Would Cut Essential Programs

April 10, 2025

On Thursday, every single one of Virginia's House Republicans voted to pass a Trump-backed budget resolution that will strip essential programs from the most vulnerable Virginians - cutting Medicaid, food assistance, and veterans’ benefits—while handing out massive tax breaks to the ultra-wealthy. Virginia's six House Democrats voted against the resolution.

It’s no surprise that Republicans continue to vote in lockstep with Donald Trump and Elon Musk. Virginians across all five Republican-held districts have demanded in-person town halls to voice their concerns about cuts to Medicaid and veterans’ benefits—and not a single Republican representative has agreed to hold one.

“This budget resolution is a slap in the face to hardworking Virginians. By voting for it, Virginia’s House Republicans sided with billionaires and turned their backs on working families, veterans, and the Virginians who need their support the most,” said DPVA Communications Director Kelsey Carolan. “Don't be fooled when they say they want to lower costs or grow the economy—this vote shows exactly who they’re fighting for. When they're on the campaign trail, remember, if their lips are moving, they’re lying.”
