The Democratic Party of Oregon Mourns the Loss of State Senator Aaron Woods, Sets Date to Fill Vacancy

April 21, 2025

WILSONVILLE, OR – The Democratic Party of Oregon issued the following statement regarding the loss of State Senator Aaron Woods, who passed away over the weekend.

“Senator Woods was an inspirational public servant,” DPO Chair Nathan Soltz said. “From his service in the Army to his service in our state capitol, and so much else, he served with dignity and an unwavering sense of principle. Getting to know him in the legislature, where we connected over our wristwatch collections, was a privilege. His work on technology and artificial intelligence policy, preparing Oregon for our present and future, will leave a lasting mark on our state. Senator Woods was a genuine, good man. On behalf of all Oregon Democrats, I extend my deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. May his memory be a blessing.”

As we mourn the loss of a dedicated public servant, the Democratic Party of Oregon also recognizes its responsibility to ensure continued representation for the people of Senate District 13. In accordance with state law and party procedures, the Democratic Party of Oregon will convene a nominating convention to begin the process of filling this legislative vacancy. The convention will take place on Sunday, May 4th, in Wilsonville.
