Las Vegas Review-Journal: “Southern Nevada’s casino-heavy economy is fueled by tourism, but visitor volume has slumped this year.”
Las Vegas unemployment continues to climb following the release of May jobless claims, making the city among the highest in the nation. Fueled by a decline in tourism, Las Vegas continues to feel the brunt of Donald Trump’s chaotic tariffs and reckless trade war.
But it isn’t just Southern Nevada dealing with the fallout of Trump’s haphazard tariff policy. Across the state, outdoor recreation and gaming industries are suffering and small businesses are struggling to navigate the erratic policies. Nevada’s unemployment rate is higher today than when Lombardo took office in 2023 and according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), under Lombardo, Nevada’s unemployment rate has been higher than any state in the nation for the entire past year.
Nevada State Democratic Party Executive Director Hilary Barrett:
“Joe Lombardo said Nevadans needed to ‘feel a little pain’ in response to Donald Trump’s tariffs. Now, Las Vegas continues a downward trend following Trump’s trade war as international travel, tourism, and our gaming and outdoor recreation industries continue to see declines. When will Lombardo decide Nevadans have felt enough pain and finally stand up to Trump?”
