Statement from the South Carolina Democratic Party on Senate Finance Subcommittee Report Regarding Treasurer Curtis Loftis

April 3, 2025

On April 3rd, the Constitutional Subcommittee of the State Senate Finance Committee, as part of their oversight responsibility, released a report on Republican State Treasurer Curtis Loftis and his role in the $1.8 billion accounting error.

This report reveals deeply troubling allegations about the conduct of Treasurer Loftis - allegations that should concern every South Carolinian, regardless of party affiliation. The findings suggest a clear breach of public trust and raise serious questions about the Treasurer’s ability to continue in his role.

Public service is a public trust. When that trust is broken, our institutions - and the people who depend on them - suffer. We join in the call for accountability and believe the Treasurer should step down in light of these serious concerns.

“The people of South Carolina deserve honest leadership and transparency from their elected officials,” said SCDP Chair Christale Spain. “These findings are disturbing and incompatible with the integrity we expect from someone holding statewide office. Treasurer Loftis must finally put South Carolinians first and resign.”

The people of South Carolina deserve transparency, integrity, and leadership. April 3rd’s report is an important step in restoring trust in the State Treasurer’s office.
