In response to Senator Cory Booker’s record-breaking Senate speech pushing back against the Trump Administration, Christale Spain, South Carolina Democratic Party Chair released the following statement:

“Fighting back against Trump and Elon Musk’s sweeping changes, Senator Cory Booker has used the power of words to galvanize Democrats and in doing so broke South Carolina Senator Strom Thurmond’s record setting speech of 24 hours and 18 minutes against the Civil RIghts Act of 1957.

It’s a record worth breaking! Almost 70 years later, Senator Booker used his voice to defend justice, not deny it. Senator Booker’s speech was not about breaking records – but a clarion call to those who believe every person matters, and in a government of the people, for the people and by the people. Senator Booker’s resolve demands that we keep up the fight.”
