Pennsylvania Democrats Keep State House Majority, Flip Deep-Red State Senate Seat

March 25, 2025

BREAKING: On March 25, 2025 Night, Democrats retained the State House majority and flipped a State Senate seat that has not been held by a Democrat since 1978 and that voted for Trump by 15 points in 2024. The Pennsylvania Democratic Party congratulates Representative-elect Dan Goughnour and Senator-elect James Malone on their historic wins.

Pennsylvania Democratic Party’s Chair, Sharif Street, released the following statement:

“Congratulations, Pennsylvania Democrats!

Your dedication and hard work have led to incredible victories in the House District 35 (Allegheny County) and Senate District 36 (Lancaster County) special elections.

Democrats outperformed by more than double compared to past elections.

These accomplishments not only reflect the trust and support of our communities but also ensure that Speaker Joanna McClinton maintains her leadership in the House - and we delivered a massive upset to flip a seat held by Republicans for 46 years!

Let’s continue this momentum and build a brighter future together!”

Pennsylvania Democratic Party’s Executive Director, Mitch Kates, released the following statement:

“Pennsylvania Democrats fight each election cycle under the mantra: ‘Vote Local PA.’ These special election victories showed that Democratic spirit is not only alive and well but fired up and ready to take our country back one election at a time.

As Trump, Elon Musk, and their billionaire co-conspirators continue to blitzkrieg our government and country, slashing tens of thousands of hard-working Americans’ jobs and millions of Americans’ healthcare, Democrats and the voters of Pennsylvania showed up to say, ‘Not so fast.’

As we say here in Pennsylvania: Democrats get **** done!”

Pennsylvania Senate Democratic Campaign Committee’s Executive Director, Jalen Nix, released the following statement:

“There’s been a lot of talk about Pennsylvania’s future - but tonight, voters made it clear: our values and our vision win everywhere.

This race was a referendum on the chaos Republicans have brought to Washington and the silence they’ve offered in Harrisburg. Just three years ago, there wasn’t even a Democrat on the ballot - tonight, we flipped this seat.

Congratulations to James and his team on a hard-earned win, and deep gratitude to the Lancaster Dems for their tireless work.

The future of this Commonwealth is in our hands - and tonight, we moved it forward.”
