NEW: MAGA Extremist Mike Collins Caught Lying to His Constituent About Medicaid Cuts

August 4, 2025

GA-10 Constituent Carolyn Gorman: “When I got his response […] he had already voted in favor of House Bill 1. So he lied to me

New reporting reveals that MAGA extremist and GOP U.S. Senate candidate Rep. Mike Collins lied to a concerned constituent, saying there were “no plans to cut Medicaid funding” in Trump’s devastating budget law - after Collins had already voted for the bill, which is set to strip 750,000 Georgians of coverage over the next 10 years.

Public polling revealed that 52% of Georgia voters disapprove of the law, which Collins helped whip votes to pass and has called a sign that “the Golden Age of America is here.” Last month, concerned Georgians protested outside Collins’ district office to denounce his support for these harmful cuts.

GOP U.S. Senate candidates Rep. Buddy Carter and failed and fired former Tennessee football coach Derek Dooley have also doubled down on their support for the harmful law.

KEY POINTS:

  • 52% of Georgia voters said they disapprove of the law, which was passed […] with support from Republican lawmakers, including Georgia Rep. Mike Collins.
  • In Athens, Georgia, retired public school teacher Carolyn Gorman said she believes those cuts could devastate working families.
  • “A lot of my students were on Medicaid,” Gorman said. “That’s where they got their healthcare. If we want kids to succeed, they need to be healthy.”
  • Concerned about the bill’s impact, Gorman wrote to Collins asking him not to support it.
  • She received a letter in return, stating: “There are currently no plans to cut Medicaid funding,” and that he “opposed cuts because there are many people who truly need Medicaid for their healthcare needs.”
  • “When I got his response, it was 9 in the morning, and he had already voted in favor of House Bill 1. So he lied to me,” Gorman said.
  • Gorman says the consequences would hit Georgia especially hard. “We’re already a fairly poor, rural state. This bill will close hospitals, nursing homes, and cost people jobs,” she said.
  • […] as many as 750,000 Georgians could lose Medicaid coverage over the next 10 years under provisions like those included in the bill.
