Governor Murphy, First Lady Tammy Murphy, and the Choose New Jersey Delegation attended a climate meeting where Governor Murphy signed a Memorandum of Understanding with The Climate Group, an international nonprofit organization focused on global net zero emissions by 2050. The MOU adds New Jersey to the Under2 Coalition, the largest global network of states and regions committed to achieving greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions mitigation. The MOU aligns with New Jersey’s goal of 100% clean energy by 2035 and allows collaboration between New Jersey and United Kingdom academic and research institutions to create and share plans toward global reduction of CO2. “Over the past few years, we have made generational investments into building out our state’s offshore wind industry and creating thousands of good-paying jobs for our state’s workers. By 2040, we plan on generating 11 gigawatts of clean energy through offshore wind alone,” said Governor Murphy. “Moreover, when it comes to solar energy, our state is on track to exceed 5 gigawatts of installed solar capacity, which is enough energy to power more than 750,000 homes. That number will only grow in the years to come. So, from offshore wind, to solar, to modernizing our energy grid, New Jersey is blazing forward in our efforts to build a cleaner, more sustainable, and more prosperous state.”
