Maine GOP Senator Calls Conspiracy Theorists 'Wise', VP Harris 'DEI Pick'

Outgoing Maine state senator Lisa Keim recently praised conspiracy theorists including RFK Jr. as “wise” and derided Vice President Kamala Harris as a “DEI pick” despite decades of public service as District Attorney, Attorney General, U.S. Senator, and Vice President.

The Maine Democratic Party released the following statement:

“Sen. Keim’s comments are utterly laughable on their face, but deserving of swift condemnation by Mainers of all political backgrounds due to their underlying prejudice. The Maine GOP continues to rely on stoking divisions and inflaming conflict around “culture war” issues rather than focusing on delivering concrete common-sense solutions for Maine families.

“To applaud Trump's choice of a conspiracy theorist lacking any scientific credentials to run public health and, to simultaneously dismiss the impressive qualifications of the only Black and Asian-American woman to seek the presidency as “DEI”, belies Republicans’ thinly veiled racial and gender-based attempts to discredit the Vice President. Sen. Keim should be ashamed of her comments, and the Maine Democratic Party will keep standing up for candidates and policies that reflect the strength and diversity of all Mainers.”
