MAGA Monica De La Cruz Lies on Stage at Republican National Convention

July 17, 2024

AUSTIN, Texas – On July 17, 2024 Night, Monica De La Cruz’s speech at the Republican National Convention conveniently ignored that it was her MAGA allies in Congress who failed to deliver a single bill for Texas working families, despite President Biden and Democrats' efforts to strengthen border security, uplift middle and working class Texas, and protect reproductive healthcare.

Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa released the following statement:

“De La Cruz’s appearance at the Republican National Convention only further proves that the GOP’s waning support in Congressional District 15 and how desperate they are to keep it. De La Cruz is not known for leadership in South Texas. Her record reflects hiding her anti-abortion record, demonizing our border communities, endorsing Project 2025 and voting against the best interests of her district – and the voters of TX-15 know it. If De La Cruz is the best representative that the Republican Party can offer, their party is in horrible shape. South Texans’ are tired of De La Cruz ignoring their issues and deserve a leader like Michelle Vallejo to restore faith in Congress and will fight for working families, protect  reproductive rights and ensure fundamental freedoms for everyone in the 15th.”

Monica De La Cruz’s values don’t align with South Texas:

- Politico: EAR(MARK)S ARE BURNING: Rep. Monica De La Cruz (R-Texas) steered a couple million dollars of taxpayer money to an organization founded by an acquaintance who was recently arrested for allegedly stealing half a million dollars from victims of a Ponzi scheme, Daniel reports.

- The Hill: GOP reps say Trump shooting, Vance pick will boost Latino support

-- “I think that Senator Vance is an excellent choice, and I do believe that he will connect with voters and move, specifically, Hispanics towards the Republican party, but towards voting for President Trump,” De La Cruz said.

-- De La Cruz’s response to VP pick Vance reminds voters of his 2022 campaign ad asking Ohioans:“Are You a Racist? Do You Hate Mexicans?”

- Noticias Telemundo: To get to Congress, these Republican Latinas from Texas promoted their anti-abortion stance. Not so much anymore

-- She [De La Cruz]  delivered the Spanish-language Republican response to Biden’s State of the Union address in March, in which he focused on the economy, inflation and the border. She made no mention of abortion or reproductive rights.

- Four years ago, and up until two years ago, however, this was a central theme of her campaign. Since 2022, the congresswoman has gradually removed references to abortion from her website: she went from highlighting it as a top priority in 2020 to not mentioning it at all in 2024.

- Heritage Action for America: De La Cruz receives a positive score from The Heritage Foundation’s partner organization and hyper-conservative think tank.

-- The Heritage Foundation is the author of Project 2025, which outlines Trump’s plan for the United States upon election in November.

- A reminder of just how far Trump’s Project 2025 will go:

-- Allow states with abortion bans to track their citizens’ pregnancies

-- Conduct the largest deportation operation in American history

-- Undo all Biden-era environmental progress and replace green energy sources with oil and nuclear energy

-- Eliminate the Department of Education

-- Deploy the military against American citizens

-- Destroy democracy to ensure elections are only “secure” if he wins

-- Censor books and American history

-- Disintegrate the separation between religion and state, forcing students to read the Bible and pray in school
