ANNAPOLIS - Governor Wes Moore releases the following statement on the passage of Question 1 Maryland, solidifying the right to abortion in the state constitution:

“We’ve been clear since Day One of the Moore-Miller Administration that Maryland will lead the fight to protect reproductive freedom. And this week, the people of Maryland raised their hands to guide this work, voting overwhelmingly to enshrine reproductive freedom into our state constitution. The people have spoken, and their will must be honored.

“At a time when Marylanders are concerned about their fundamental freedoms, our entire state is working together to protect the civil liberties and basic rights that everyone deserves. I am grateful for the partnership of the Maryland General Assembly, our friends both inside and outside of government, and the millions of Marylanders who went to the ballot box this November to engage with our democratic process.

“And while this week marked an enormous victory in our work to protect a woman’s right to choose, our fight is not done. The mission continues to keep Maryland a safe haven for abortion access, deliver critical supports centered on protecting bodily autonomy, and provide Marylanders with the resources they need to make their own, informed choices about family planning and health care.”
