Governor Polis Visits Meadowood Housing in Carbondale, Celebrates Workforce Housing Expansions in Colorado

CARBONDALE - On September 13, 2024, Governor Polis visited the Meadowood Housing project, a completed 50-unit housing development built to address workforce housing needs for the staff of the Roaring Forks School District.

“Building housing that Coloradans can afford, and is close to work for our educators helps our rural communities thrive and our students succeed. Meadowood Housing will provide better housing options that local educators can actually afford while saving them time and money on their commute,” said Governor Polis.

During his visit, Governor Polis toured the $29 million Meadowood project which includes eight studios, 10 one-bedroom, 16 two-bedroom and 16 three-bedroom units. The project received $641,761.28 from the High Efficiency Electric Heating and Appliances (HEEHA) grant program and signed into law by Governor Polis in 2022. The entire housing development is completely electric, with no natural gas lines.

Across the state, the Polis Administration is investing in affordable workforce housing. In early August, Governor Polis and the Department of Corrections announced 12 new units of housing for workers at the Buena Vista facility, saving people money on housing and time on their commute.

Earlier this year, Governor Polis signed historic housing legislation to create more housing near transit lines, give Coloradans the freedom to build Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) on their property, and eliminate unnecessary parking mandates that raise housing costs, and get rid of discriminatory occupancy limits.
