Governor McKee Issues Statement on U.S. Senate Passage of the So-Called ?'One Big Beautiful Bill Act'

PROVIDENCE, RI - On July 1, 2025, Governor Dan McKee issued the following statement regarding the U.S. Senate's passage of the ‘One Big Beautiful Bill Act.’

“Vice President Vance and Senate Republicans just jammed through a so-called ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ that is anything but. That bill is now heading back to the U.S. House of Representatives for consideration.

“This bill threatens to undermine access to essential safety net programs and transfer many costs from the federal government to the states-a move that neither Rhode Island nor any other state can afford. The bill reduces access to fundamental supports like SNAP food assistance. It jeopardizes health insurance coverage for thousands of Rhode Islanders while breaking President Trump’s hollow promise to protect Medicaid. By eliminating energy tax credits, the bill cripples our ability to expand our energy supply and risks driving up costs for families. Adding $3.3?trillion to the national debt will weaken our economy and leave future generations to pay the price.

In short, this bill protects the interests of the wealthy while undermining the economic security of the middle and lower classes.

“House Republicans, you should remember the promise you made to the voters who put you where you are today-a promise to represent their best interests. Do not let the land of opportunity become the land of opportunists. Pass a responsible budget that lowers costs for working families. Pass a budget whose beauty comes from the power it gives ordinary people to gain new skills, raise incomes, and safeguard their health. Invest where the American promise really lives-in education, research, and the innovations they will produce.”
